Default The "Vette Fellowship".......doesn't seem to exist yet?

I drive a 350 mile stretch of road fairly often......North to South Florida (I95).

In my Porsche I often join "meet up" with another Porsche owner on the way. At that time we honk our horns to each other and one of us leads....at above the speed limit! After about 30 minutes we swap positions and the other one leads.....we do this as "total strangers", switching the lead, for 4+ hours!

We are not racing each other, we are simply getting there faster via a totally undocumented code of sharing the risk of speeding. It happens often with total strangers, who I never meet, it is just a driving experience of "friendship".

However, if I do the same trip in the 'vette it is totally different.......100% competitive driving for 4+ hours with other brands and even 'vettes that think they need to compete.

I'm sure Porsche owners know exactly what I'm talking about.........should 'vette owner not want to enjoy the same type of fellowship? Should 'vette owners not show more empathy when on the road?

Well, I haven't seen that here, but maybe Florida is different. 'vette owners here in NC wave to one another, etc. , and I haven't seen them tending to want to race more than any other type of car owner. So do Porsche owners often wave, too. Not quite as consistently, but many are friendly and wave.

Of course, it might just be me, maybe I'm too old to notice or drive too slow for anyone to care. I usually only run about 5+ over the speed limit except when I do my early Sunday morning speed runs on empty highways.

Up here in Canada, it's a wierd lot.... nary a day goes by that some yahoo in a Honda Civic sportin' some funky exhaust system with a plethora of stickers wants to have a go with me.... I never bite for that stuff myself... but so far all the 'Vette's I have encountered have all been friendly and waved... mind you, our demographics up here are "Newly wed or nearly dead", so it's a strange cross-section of society....

It's a mixed bunch here in Maryland you have a lot of nice Vette owners that wave when you past them, but I also find myself waving with no return at some of the local Vette owners (mostly C5's and C6's).

Actually, 'round here yeh, I've noticed that a bit, too! Especially the C6's... man, you've gotta have a pretty big briefcase full of cash before the dealership'll let you outta their lot without a police escort for one of those... maybe that has something to do with it.

It seems to me that most of the owners of newer Vettes are big money, egotistic, snobs. But, when I'm out and about in my '80 L82, I get waves from, not only classic Vette owners, but from other classic rodders, and I wave back, if not first. I don't have a fancy paint job, the paint is shot, and one eye tends to open without notice. I ain't no "Primadona", there is a mutual respect among all classic car owners. It drives me nuts when some young thing, young enough to be my daughter, waves and smiles as I pass by.

Yeah, I dont know about Florida either, but here in Virginia, we are mostly a friendly group. Of course, as with any state, you have those rich snobs that know nothing about the history of Corvette but they have the money to blow so they decide to go and get a C6. Those are the jerks that dont wave. Whenever I see ANY OTHER Corvette on the road, i am ALWAYS waving. If they dont wave back, its on them. I put forth the initiative and all they can do is accept or decline. On the other hand, there are plenty of Porsche's around here and i NEVER see any of them wave at each other. The only cars i see waving at each other is Corvettes or Ferraris. Not too many Ferraris around here, but the ones you do see, wave at the other ones.

I didn't kno bout the "wave" til I came on here right after I got mine, I try to wave at all I see but some don't wave back. I even catch myself waving when in other vehicle OFCOURSE they never wave back then I realize why hehe. OKAY so I have a C6, I don't kno the history of the vette (am learning)...never drove one, never wanted one but I guess we were finally at the point in our lives to have the money to "blow" on one BUT I promise I'm not a snob & I'm really enjoying my C6, I already have 4500 miles on it, not bad for only being able to drive it when I don't have the kids huh?
