Default movin' on here...

My vette owner's manual has a section on safe passing. Says the possible accident in passing is the worst kind...

Yup. Sure is.
ORIGINAL: cwb

Miracles do happen. If you are praying, make sure it's from the heart.

On 10/06/06, I was headed to Raleigh to work in my '00 Venture. I was just out of my town (Snow Hill). 5:52 pm, exactly 55 mph. I looked up from clock/speedo check, and he was already there, passing. The police report says initial speeds, and speeds at impact, were 55. I never got my foot off the gas. It was square, and head-on.

I didn't have my seatbelt on. No gut/head holes (some say I had a hole in my head before, but that's another story), folded up legs, and squeezed the airbag to the steering wheel so tight that it broke ribs 5-7 on both sides of chest. Guts got a little squished too. 14.5 G's, could do that. 3 feet of the 7 that my vehicle traveled after impact, was the front end collapsin', so do the math - 55 - 0 in 4 feet. (Hold your arms out to your sides - that's how far). There was other traffic behind me. I came to before anyone got to the car. A couple of folks got near my door. They had seen it all, and didn't want to see what was left. When they saw that I WAS alive, one guy asked if I was okay. "I'm doin' okay. Why do you ask?" (I really did say that!)

I was also able to say "Praise God", after about a minute.

The guy who hit me was killed. Sorry dude; you were drinkin', not me.

I got out of the wheelchair in Feb. Still do one crutch occasionally.

This was also the third miracle I saw in my lifetime. One worked against me, one was of neutral consequence, and one this one was of a favorable outcome.

I knew Jesus Christ as my saviour before this happened. I know Him even better now. If you don't, I highly suggest that you introduce yourself. NOW. You don't survive such G forces - or an accident like this, without divinity involved. If I didn't know him before, I wouldn't have had time - three-tenths of a second, I'm guessin', to make that choice either. The fires of your vette's combustion chamber, don't come close to the fire of Hell.

You don't know your time. Don't play this game.
(If you think there's ANY exaggeration, the police report is public record in NC. And it's more horrible, with the diagrams, than my description )

One year ago today.

The last crutch is gone, but my limp makes homeys from the hood jealous. I ain't got the arm swing down yet[8D].

It's gonna' be okay.

Wow cwb...sounds like you're lucky to still be with us, that airbag probably saved your life. Thats one thing that worries me about this 85, it has no airbags.

Congratulations on your recovery, bud.

I wish you the best

Please... please don't count on anything like an airbag to save you. I have debated all week whether or not to post this. A friend was killed in an accident on Wed. by a Toyota pickup that was probably hydroplaning on wet roads. Mikewas in his '06 C6... cruising at about 85 or so, back in his lane after just passing an RV, and was head-on'd by the pickup who had also just passed someone. I was about 20 minutes behind and 10 cars back. The article follows, it's definately not pretty. We all need to remember that we are driving plastic cars shaped like ramps. It is up to us to dictate what happens. Slow down 5 mph, keep aware and be extra careful. This is not critisism... I'm just sad... and will never forget this as long as I live.

That's an awful tragedy.

Wedge, please extend our condolence to your friends family, and assure them that they are in our hearts and prayers.

Wow! I have been away for a few days and did not read this until now. Now, I understand why your signature line says today is your birthday. After such a horrific accident, one cannot help but be profoundly changed. From here on out, everyday is the first day of the rest of your Life, and as such your birthday. Thanks you, CWB, for sharing this part of your life with us. God obviously has plans for you.

RJ
p.s. I can relate to the arm-swing thing . . . it just takes time.
