Congratulations on your Purchase. And Welcome to the forums. The block casting number is likely to be a 67 427 (2 or 4 bolt main) number #39044351, the 0 in front of the 9 is likely a 3. lt's hard to read sometimes. Often times when engines are torn down and machined, they deck the bock and grind the numbers off, a sad consequence when numbers matter. The 1L refers to 1-Coupe and L-Built in St. Louis. Standard engine was a 300-hp 327-cu.in. v8. No mention of the 427 option in the serial number, Which seams odd but maybe that was normal for that year of a C-2. I might need to check on that.

From what I can find from 1965 to 71 they didn't list the engines in the serial number just that it's a V8. Unless you have original paperwork conferming its original, I don't know how to prove that it is original engine. But it does have a 1967 casted block without matching numbers.

Good pictures. Breaking down the engine numbers 714 are casting numbers, The IL suffix code typically indicates the engine configuration 427 and the L36 variant which produced 390 HP in which 5,000 were produced. There's a lot of information out there if you want to know more. And yes that is a engine matching number. I would say it's a keeper.

Default 67 427 numbers

Hi Thomas just got some paint stripper on the number on the block it is a 3 but on this web site many people say 390hp cars don't have 4 bolt mains and they don't have the oil cooler plug by the oil filter witch this one does thanks Keith

Well it looks like it's the L71 variant 435HP. Nice.
