Default A little advice on a transmission for a 56

Hello all. I have a pretty nice 1956 Corvette with a 3 speed in it. The car runs well but the transmission is noisy in first and second. Also, on a long run it will sometimes slip out of high gear,. It has the correct 265 V 8 I have an opportunity to buy a nicely rebuilt 3 speed from a 58? Will it fit without modification? Please advise & thanks

As I recall the only real difference between the Corvette 3 speed transmission and the passenger car 3 speed transmission in 1956 (and 1958) was the tail housing that allowed for the mounting of the floor shifter.

And of course none of these early 3 speed transmission has synchronized 1st or 2nd gears. The fully synchronized 3 speed transmission come out in the mid to late 60s
