Steering Column Knock

We have a stock 57 that has an irregular knock which seems to be coming through the steering column. It's very noticeable at rough idle or when driving on rough roads. The steering seems to be tight. Any ideas before I tear into it? Thanks much

Welcome to the forum. Is this knock occurring with the car stopped and the engine on?
