1969 headlights dimming???
Tonight I took the car for a drive and stopped for gas. It was getting dark so I turned on the headlights. The interior lights were all normal as far as brightness. On the dash the brights symbol for the high beams came on as well as both turn signal markers, not flashing though. I progressed home and the headlights continued to dim until they didn't funtion. I hit the high beams and it gave me a little light. Before I reached home they instantly returned to full brightness and the dash returned to normal, with the turn markers going off and the high beam marker going off. As I pulled up the drive it started again. The car runs fine and the interior lights seem fine. The voltage gauge reads almost 14 volts. Any ideas???
Thanks

RE: 1969 headlights dimming???
Hi and welcome to the forum, sounds like a ground problem. Clean and check all the ground connections at the headlights and all the rest for that matter, 13.8 volts is normal so 14 is ok if that's what the guage reads normally. PG.

pg is right. you have a bad ground and it is backfeeding through the light circuit, that's why the indicators are coming on. You might want to turn your lights on and start wiggling on the ground wires also. If you have a loose or broken wire inside the insulation you will see the lights dim and go bright when you hit the bad spot. Or your grounds are tight but just not making a good connection. You can check them easily with a test light. Put the ground side of the test light on a good pos. like the alt. wire. Then the other end to all your ground wires and see if the light lights up.
