Talking 1978 Project Build: Saving a Corvette!

Here's my 78 vette. We just bought it from a guy who was looking to get rid of it. It's got a long way to go before it hits the road again but im ready to put in the work and get this beauty on the streets again.
i'm not sure what the exact model is but if anyone knows feel free to let me know

Talking

We moved everything home today. The guy who let us know about the car was buying it for the engine but asked if we wanted to buy the car, so we did. We have two engines sitting in the garage, a 305 and a 400. so once we get things rolling we'll probably get the 305 in there to get started. Most of the parts are there but we're missing the tail lights and the mirror, as well as a few pieces here and there. We're going to get everything cleaned up and take it from there.

A whole bunch of parts loaded into the truck

Welcome to the forum.

According to the steering wheel which could be purchased online, you have a 1978 silver anniversary model. It had a distinctive paint scheme and that was silver above the belt line and darker silver or gray below the belt line. Good luck with your project and I hope you have a big budget.

Thanks!

i thought it could be the anniversary model but the guy i bought it from said it wasn't so i just wasnt sure. The badges match the steering wheel too so it very well could be. it was also white before he sanded it and coated it with primer. im only 14 so im doing a lot of work for my dad to help pay for the project. ill post some more pictures of the badges and such later when i work on the car. my guess is that its just a base model coupe but i guess we'll just have to find out!

Be sure to remove all of the old paint down to the factory primer prior to any repaint. You could try sanding a small area down to factory primer and see if the original paint still exists underneath the rest. Might confirm if it's a anniversary model.

The VIN might have a digit that tells the model. Could check it with a Chevy dealer.

Good luck w/ your restoration. I will try to answer any questions you might encounter.

Wilcox, Vette Brakes, Zip, Paragon, Eklers, Corvette America, Midamerica Motorworks, Contemporary Corvettes (salvage), Al Knoch Interiors. Those are a few that I can think of off the top of my head right now.

Bing and DuckDuckGo and Google are your friend. Don't hesitate to type in the part and search for it online. You'd be surprised at what you can find sometimes, even eBay and Amazon are good places to look.
