Default 1979 C3 Windshield Installation

I got a new windshield and am going to install it in the car. There is very little room on top and on the sides. I mean, that if I put the damming tape on there would be about 2 millimeters left to put the goop. Could I just use goop and glue the windshield in, or, is the damming tape necessary?

I'm not familiar with the term "damming tape", are you referring to the butyl tape? That is the glue that holds it in.

Yes, I am referring to the butyl tape, calling it damming tape. Do you really think I need to put the tape on there?

And use only the butyl glue pumped out of a grease gun?

The way I understand it the damming tape is only used if you want the original look the way it was built. Do you need to use it, unless you want to keep it original, it's up to you is the way I understand it.

You might also check with a local glass shop to see how they do it.

My rear glass came loose after about a year because all that was holding it in was what I refer to as rope caulk. I don't know if it was what you're referring to is damming tape. I put it back in with black silicon RTV and it's held for the remainder of the 50 years.
