Default 1980 replacement leather shifter boot/automatic

Any suggestions on how to fit the replacement shifter boot into the 1980 Corvette console? I do have the complete set of
installation instructions BUT don't understand if I am to insert the assembly down through the console plate OR push it
up through the console plate as it has been loosened and tilted up in the air. THANKS

That's a good question, I changed the boot on my 77 a few years back. Can't remember all the details about it. I replaced it completely out of the car. Pay attention to how the old boot is mounted, remove the 4 screws from the top side of the boot. Push the boot down and out, or up if it's not clearing the shifter. I'm not sure your new boot has the metal mounting frame, you might need to use your old one. Stuff it in the opposite way you removed it. Pay attention on how the boot frame is wrapped around the metal frame.
