Hi people, I just got a 1982 Corvette about 3 months ago. It is in good condition, but I have one problem. I am a control freak who sometimes likes to shift up through the gears manually instead of letting the automatic do all the work. As I am sure you guys know the shifter will not let you put the tranny in 1st manually, it stops at 2nd. Does anyone know of any aftermarket shifter that will fit without butchering the center console which will allow me to start manually in 1st? Or is there some modification I can do to the stock shift mechanism which will do the same?

welcome!!.........maybe this is a problem inherent to 82s..My 80 vette has the stock shifter and it pulls all the way back into 1st anytime...no problem..maybe your shifter needs to be adjusted..is there any adjustment for the whole assembly to be moved forward on the tranny tunnel?when in park is the shifter all the way up to the console?just some ideas to consider...hope this helps..Russ
