Default 700R4

hey gang I have a 70 with a 350 that runs fine and shifts smooth a low speeds and has a nice crisp shift when I put it through its paces. Several friends say I should replace with with a 700R4. What are the benefits?

700r4 has overdrive, and is slightly heavier duty than a standard TH350. You'll get better mileage, and be able to apply a bit more HP/torque without shredding things. Downsides... that is one heck of a big job, and some of the connectors will not be plug-and-play. Things like your lockdown will likely need converted.

If my old trans gives up the ghost, I'd consider swapping into a 700R4. As long as the TH350 is working as it should, I don't see the overdrive comfort and mileage worth the trouble and cost. Just my humble (lazy) opinion, of course.

bill.

Thanks for sharing a thought. I thinking the same way. Nothing is broke, nothing to fix!
