Default Big block identity made easy

There was a question earlier asked about how to tell a truck (industrial) block from a passenger or performance block. Sorry my pictures aren't better.better.
The first is a 427 industrial.
The second one is a '65 396.
Notice the deck height difference. That is the big deal. The 396 would be more pronounced if I had a water pump on it.

The 396

I am not happy with the picture of the 396, I will add more pictures on Monday and show how to id the 454 as well.

Got some new pictures! This is a 454. The 454block is easy to identify with the pan off because of the cast in relief at the cylinder base. This is for rod bolt clearance, the 454 is just a stroked 427.
