Default Check Engine Light

I have a
1982 Collector Edition Corvette. It runs great however when I turn the ignition off the check engine light comes on. Any ideas how to correct this?

Patient: Hey Doc, it hurts when I touch my arm right here.

Doc: Don't touch your arm right there.

The check engine light comes on when you turn the car *off*? If the check engine light comes on while the car is running, I might worry a bit, but when it is off? No idea there. The check engine light is usually wired into a bunch of stuff, and tracking it down (without one of those nifty computers with "codes" to read) can be tough. The most common cause of check engine in modern cars... drumroll... the gas cap not screwed on tight.

bill.

Most of your auto parts stores will read out any codes that are set for free.
