CRATE MOTOR IN AN 81
Gents, Hope all is well. I am looking at buying an 81 vette all stock at about $9K. I have always wanted to install a ZZ4 crate motor in a C3 just to make sure I get a good looking vette with a new engine and good performance. Here is the link to the crate motor. ZZ4 Crate Motor
I only wanted to buy the crate motor and stuff it in. Are there upgrades you recommend I get with it? cam? intake? carb? i have about $5K to spend on the motor. My intent is to drive it on weekends and open it up once in a while. Also, will this bolt right up to the stock tranny? will the accessories and pullies bolt directly on? I intend to call the engine builder and ask these questions but wanted a second opinion.

It is still a small block chevy. Bell housing will bolt up just fine, but check the flywheel. Location of dipstick might be on opposite side of your 81, also if that engine you want has center bolt valvecovers, bracket bolt ups for alternator, p/s, a/c might be a problem. Now, I have put late model centerbolt engines in Camaro (1st & 2nd generation) and early Chevy pickups, rounded up late model brackets and alternators and such and made them work with a single belt system. Street and Performance, along with other companies make bracket kits to convert over, or go to wrecking yard and find an intact late 80's to early 90's Chevy V8 pickup with throttle body and buy everything you need off the truck.
