Engine just won't fit
I NEED HELP. I bought a 1978 L82 Corvette that had no Engine Or Transmission. I found a 1973 L82 Engine and the Used sales place that sold me the Engine put all the 1978 smog equipement on the vehicle. The 78 smogpump, L82 dual air cleaner, quadrajet carb, smog pump, alt, starter, brackets etc. I then bought a rebuilt 350 turbo transmission from a tranny place that came from a 1979 Monte Carlo. I bough nos trans mount. When I used the motor mounts that the parts house gave me, three different places gave me mounts that caused the car to be three inches too high causing the fan to hit the fan shroud, as I could not even bolt the fan to the fan clutch. I went to the car shop in orange california and got the nos mounts. this solved the fan problem.I noticed that the trans crossmember was bent so I went to JD Corvette in Bellflower and got a used cross member from a 1978 corvette to make sure it was straight. It made no difference after putting the nos mounts on, as it still remains about a half inch too high to the point that the hood won't shut with the are cleaner on. I have the hood unbolted and it still is 1/2 inch too high. The hood line in the from would be 1/2 too high from thebody line. I bought 9 shims to use, but haven't used them yet.I need to get the Engine lower some how. What the heck can possibly be the problem?
Has anyone runinto this???

Well, I am thinking I am down to that. I was given the air cleaner that was supposed to be for that car. How do I confirm that? The spout of the left side lines up directly with the nozel over the radiator. The right side is the side that is hanging up. My feeling is to bend it down more, as it does tilt alittle down. But looking at the others I think I need to take another look. Maybe I bend it until it fits, but fearing that I would break it. Is there a way of telling?

You sure your motor has the L-82 intake manifold and not aftermarket?
I bought motor mounts from O'reilly, Advance, and AutoZone. All three were exactly the same part and none of them fit. I bought one at Napa, looked different from original, and fit perfectly.
Can you post pictures of everything installed? Something's not adding up and either your mount is bad, radiator shroud isn't installed properly (flange not resting on support), or the motor has an incorrect intake manifold or air filter base.
And the more I think about it, when my right side mount originally broke, I kept having to re-adjust the fan shroud because the fan would pull the shroud out of the radiator support and it would sit too low, causing the fan to hit. If you get under the front of your car you can real easily see if this is the case.

HI. The shroud fits now that I got the NOS motor mounts which were different than the ones I got from Kragan, and Tops and autozone. By getting this it dropped an additional two inches. I need 1/2 inch more. I have a stock L48 intake which was the same size as the L82 one with the grids. I presumable have a 1978 L82 dual air cleaner. I know it is different than what the older ones were like I.E. 1973.
