Does your crate motor have intake manifold bolts that are vertical or do they go in perpendicular to the head? I think when the small blocks went to TPI, the bolts went to vertical so you'd need to check the '96 heads.

i may be wrong but i thought couldnt cross the parts from different generation of engines...meaning anything 86 and newer wouldnt worn on anything 85 and older...but i might be wrong

Most of those 90's Corvettes came with the aluminum heads, which should be just like Gen 0 (old) small blocks, I know the LT1s were reverse flow, but that shouldn't affect the heads. I say should because you haven't listed casting numbers or got pics, which should help.
