Default help with fiberglass work

I got a fiberglass kit and plan to repair the the place where the driverside support bracket sits on my hood. I have never worked with fiberglass before. The support bracket has completely ripped out a chunk of fiberglass where it conects to the hood. I have plenty of tools and work space for the repair, just a lack of experience. It looks like someone has tried to repair it before, but had a glue fail instead of a fix. Is this something Dr. Newb like me could do? Or is this going to be repair fail #2?

Are you referring to the hold-open mounting?

Yes that is what I am referring to. Is this a common problem? Is it hard to fix?

First time I've heard of this problem. Someone must have raised the hood and didn't stop when it reached the limit of the hold-open. I believe there's a metal brace inside of the fiberglass for the hold-open to attach to.
