Wheel hop, as originally known, was the entire rear axle tryin' to turn like a giantairplane propellor on the end of the driveshaft, from extreme torque. One wheel dug into the asphalt; the other lifted (and hopped). If you google long enough for good pictures, you'll see driver's side leaf springs are always compressed, and passenger's side springs are always 'suspended' (or vice versa -I can't remember). Ladder bars was the only fix for true wheel hop.A vehicle with independant rear suspension (such as a vette, with half-shafts) will not do what was originally known as wheel hop.

The front drive imports are the same way. The kids that drive 'em say they have wheel hop. Nope - same as IRS. Not true wheel hop.

Hi everyone, shocks can be it, but blknblu68 we need some history, have the trailing arm bushings ever been changed and all the other rubber parts, and how about the alignment. VB&P lists several set-ups, you might look there.
What size rear sway bar or not.
Corvettes hook up, if you get all the above just right, you'll hook up just fine.
And what motor, trany and gears. Hope this helps, PG.

I asked C3 if it could just be all shocks in the case of the 'Vette as that's what I keep coming back to. I spoke to my brother yesterday, another motorhead from the '60s and early '70s. We both agreed that we'd never seen a 'Vette with that problem. (having a "w/i reason engine) With all the suspension parts in good repair, get good shocks and you should be in good shape.
The Chevelle was mentioned. Like I said, I'm familiar w/ all the good old set-ups, but the 'Vette is a different animal. Good Luck, but I think-shocks, shocks.
Please let us know the outcome. Again, Good Luck.

Hi again, everything else is new so new shocks should do it. 10 year old shocks, that seems like a long time for them to still be working, just thought about mine there 6 years old, I bettercheck them out myself. How long do shocks last? PG

"How long do shocks last?"
Until they go bad. I've had 20 year old vehicles and older that the shocks were still good. If you hit a speed bump or a curb too hard, you can blow the seals. So,.... I guess it depends on how rough you are with them, just like any other part.

I put sensatracs from monroe on all 4 of my wheels. Good shock for normal driving, but stiffens up when hit really hard, and price was not to bad. was able to get em at a local auto parts store too, so no shipping. Took care of most of my problem, I still have some traction issues, but put in a new spring as well (went cheap with 9-leaf) and some adjustable strut rods on the rear, and my problem was cured. Now, if I could only make it hood and not spin........
