i only noticed there is no D drive with the c3

Default i only noticed there is no D drive with the c3

i only realised it had no D and been using 1st all along. so i did some reading and folks say i should use 3(d) at all times unless you come to a stop and then you shift to 1st and then back to 3 after you take off.

is this true and how it's done?

In the owners manual It would state how the gear selector is used. When driving normally you would use the 3rd position, going at any speed I myself like to slow down for any reason like to use 2nd speed it just helps to use the engine to slow and saves a bit on brake pads. First speed on the streets is pretty much useless, when in 1st it will not shift to 2nd unless you put the selector in 2nd or 3rd but you can go any RPM you want. If. come to a stop or almost stop in 2nd it will automatically shift into 1st. The only time I use 1st on the street is to go slow or not wanting to shift into 2nd. And 2nd is the same way, it will not shift into 3rd unless you put the shifter in 3rd. It makes the automatic more of a manual. I think early Corvettes with the powerglide 2 speed with an L and D, they wer the same, place it in Low and it stayed there. The 2oo and 700rs 4 speeds automatics had the 1, 2, 3, and D with the Big O over the D for overdrive they wer the same thing, place it in a lower speed and they stayed there. And even with the 700R I shift down a speed when slowing, it saves on brake pads, you can leave it in 3 and drive all day unless you want to stop or backup. Take the car out and drive it it's really self explantory

so my thoughts were correct then, for everyday driving stay on 3rd. if and when im slowing down at a stop switch to 2nd a bit earlier and the trans will switch to 1st if needed. bit of a loaded question. sorry and thank you for the quick response thomas

I have searched for a reason why GM used 1 2 3 for speed selections and can find no reason except to make it sportier than mom's car with 1,2 and D.
