Default Overheating question.

In heavy traffic my temps are steadily rising to where it has me concerned. I've got a coolant flush scheduled for saturday, but I'm not sure if that's what is causing it. (Accidently mixed the dex with the green stuff). Any advice is welcome.

Rick, One of the topics awhile ago, someone here can tell you which one, addressed this problem. I said that I always put a 160 degree thermostat in any small blcok chevy I ever get. The 195 etc. is just too close to disaster for me. Alot of guys have spent alot of money on their cooling systems, like in the topic; "2 core or 4 core" (I think). If you get the stock cooling system operating properly, it'll keep the car cool. I have to say that the C3 'Vette's front end is not very cooling friendly-this has also been mentioned.
Anyway, I'd start with the 160 degree thermostat and see how that works.(a good quality one).

In my case, I always go with a 180* thermo.

Good points made,.....
1. Condition of air dam
2. Fan clutch
3. Thermostat degree options

I'm goin' to throw in another,.....
Inspect the radiator for any obstuctions in air flow.Debris in the cooling fins or bent fins.

Point to concider, is this overheating a new development? If so, the options above may be your solution.

Make sure that the lower spoiler lip is intact and all of the seals around the radiator and between the header and the hood are all there and functional. You want all of the air that comes in the front end and underneath goes thru the radiator. Might have to check the water pump impeller to be sure it's not corroded badly enuf to affect its function. Also make sure pump belt is tite. If you have a fan clutch, check it out. Replace t-stat when you do the flush.
