Does anyone have an idea on what a clean original 68k rearend for an 81 goes for? Also has anyone heard about solid axle conversions for c3 vettes? Has anyone tried using a 9inch?

I don't know how much the center chunk is worth. The Corvette being a full frame car allows for a fairly easy conversion. You could fabricate a leaf spring mounting or coil springs with trailing arms. A 4 link setup with coilovers would be really cool. It's your car, do what you want. I do not know of anyone that has a conversion kit.

Don't know if u r going to drag race the car or what, but I think the older steel housing is stronger than the newer aluminum ones like our's, I have an '81 also. This was a topic on here once before awhile back. Someone said that the aluminum broke w/ around 400-450 hp and the steel ones were strong enough for a worked big block, w/ afew mods. Nothing I've ever ran is stronger than the 9" Ford unless u go aftermarket. Don't know if I'd go w/ a solid housing on my 'Vette before I tried the old steel. I like the way the car takes corners.
How about telling us your reasons f/ the change. You've been on here for awhile too.

There's also a heavy duty casting available now. Check some old drag racing mags as there will be some solid axle Corvettes there.
