Default runs rough cold and high idle

its a 1982 vette all stock, ive read other posts and did all tune up parts in her. ive found the intake gasket bad and did that, changed the map sensor and coolant temp sensor (the 1 under the smog pump) now it idles at 1300 cold and it still seams to miss when cold. you could smell it runs rich at back of the car, before it idled all over the place and you could see black smoke out of the pipes. ive check codes and none are showing up. ive been dealing with this for years. this year i want to fix it right to drive it all the time and not be afraid to break down, thanks any body who helps me out,

In '80 and prior years you could get out a screwdriver, allen wrench, an end wrench and adjust the timing, points, and carb to get the issue resolved (all while it's running, BTW). BUT, since you have a 'puter, I'm at a loss as to tell ya what to do.
I don't know if "old school" tactics will help. I'd sure give a carb tune up a try though.
You're idle is too fast and she's running way too rich.

I really don't know much about these things but I do know there is a device called IAC (idle air control) on the throttle bodies. It's a solenoid of some sort and possibly if it wasn't working correctly it might cause what you're seeing.
If you don't have one already you should get the shop manual for your car. I have one for my 84 and it has saved my neck a bunch of times. It has a really good troubleshooting section that will take you through all that computer magic one sep at a time. Good Luck!

today i took both iacs out and cleaned them. they were all carboned up on the needles and in the throttle bodies.idle was even higher but than came down to a steady 1000. than i borrowed a timing light and dizzy was way off. adjusted it and now idles fine and no more hesitation on take off. took it for a 2 hour drive today and all seams good. with my a/c working again it was a nice cool ride. thanks every body.it seams to be good to go.
