Angry Something scary about my C-3 !!!

I just found something frightening about my 70 Vette. The hood has been hard to open. You have to pull really hard on the hood "****".

Poking around in the engine compartment I found the cable where it hooks to the operating lever was worn through to just 2 "wires" in the cable.

Thinking about it,,, if the hood was closed and latched,,,, and that cable had broken,,, short of a cutting torch or something equally horrible,,, there would be no possible way to get the hood open!

Unless there's some sort of "emergency opener" thing? Something to think about!

Glad you caught it in time.
There is a way to get to the latches, but it's a real pain in the ****.

On my '80 there are two holes up under the hood by the windshield, and almost un detectable without the hood open.
I put a secondary cable hanging down from each latch for emergencies.

Don't use a torch, Vetts burn.

Since his is a 70, he would have to open the windshield wiper door to access those holes if they are in the models with the wiper door. I guess there is a provision under the steering column to manually open that door. I almost forgot about that.

Ah yes, the wiper door.
True, my '80 doesn't have one but the hood to windshield clearance
is quite small and too tight for me to get a hand in to do any good.
That's why I put in the extra cables hanging down inside the engine compartment.
I can reach them from underneath.

I put in an extra cable connecting the two latches in case one breaks.
