Default starting trouble

My 74 sat for about 6 weeks without being started. Now when I try to start it all I get is a click when I turn the key. I connected a portable jump starter to the battery and again all I got was a click. The lights lit up okay. The jump starter was fully charged. Earlier this summer it ran okay with no problems. Any help is greatly appreciated..

Do the lights dim when you try to start it?

to 73shark: when I turn the key the lights not only dim but they go out completely. Then after a several minutes the lights will come back on and when I try to start it again, they go out.

That sounds like either a bad battery connection someplace in the circuit or a battery that's not fully charged.

thank you 73shark: It appears the battery is bad. It is 10 years old and finally pooped out. Thank you for your input and help.
