Default Stupid question of the day #1

Sorry guys,
About 100 years ago I bought the complete C3 exhaust from Corvette Central. It came with the little extension shown below. Where does it go? I assume either I throw it away or put the seal on it and put it between (inside) the header and the pipe. Please help before i regret guessing again.
Thanks
MarkV

You got it right. The seal goes on it and it makes it last really long time. You can go without it, but those seals burn out pretty fast.

Not sure what it could be other than it looks like it's about the right size to replace the heat riser valve on the passenger side but your picture appears to be on the driver's side. What does the description for Flag Note 5 say?

On my '73, the exhaust pipe bolts directly to the exhaust manifold with the gasket in between them. Not sure why they need that 2" extension.
