Vette 1980
HI
A newbie here. Never been involved with a Vette before so I am lost and asking stupid questions.
First problem is the ignition switch/lock. It does not lock the steering wheel as it should. There is a little 'switch' beside the ign. switch where the key is put in. What is the purpose of that ? When I moved that switch a few times, then it locked the steering and I was in real difficulty to get the key out of the switch. But that was the only time it locked. And the other problem is that the key comes out even when it is in 'run'position. It is not allowed to do that.
So am I in the situation that I should at least change the lock ? Is it difficult and can it be done in the car or should the whole steering column be taken out of the car ?
Please, advice
Thanks

It is surprisingly easy to change the lock. However I would recommend that you get a good service manual for the car to help figure out what else could be broken or missing causing the wheel to not lock correctly.
