throttle cable adjustment
I replaced the intake gasket on my 79 vette and who ever owned it before me had a 3/4 inch space under the 600 holley (not sure why) because it caused the airfilter to rub on the hood???? Where the throttle cable bracket is connected to the rear bolt on the carb, they had jerry rigged it and i put it back how it was supposed to go. They had drilled another hole and made up a another bracked so it would not move. When I floor it, the gas pedal does not travel far enough to open up the back to barrles so I am stuck going slow. How do I adjust that? The carb is not getting hung up on anything, I can open the carb up by the linkage with my hand. Thanks.

The 3/4" spacer is just that - a spacer. It is designed to improve the way that the air/fuel mixture is delivered from the carburetor to the intake - more simply stated, the carburetor spacer adds power. You might want to reinstall it. A drop base air cleaner will help with the hood clearance.
As far as the throttle linkage issue goes, you should be able to adjust it so that you get full throttle. Pictures might help. Got any?
DeeVeeEight,
I left the camera at work, I will do up some picutes Monday. Not sure how to adjust the throttle though. I think you have to disconnect the plastic bracket that holds the cable up by the carb but I am not sure. What is a drop base air cleaner? Does it just sit lower on the carb. Wish I had to camera to show you what I have. I will have it monday.

i had a similar problem on my car...but after i change the carb. I figured out that the bracket that holds the throttle cable was not sitting right and would move to the point where when i floored the gas petal it wouldn't even open the primary barrels all the way.
Just a thought and something for you to look at

The way it was connected before, when I floored the gas pedal, the bracket would move and then I could hardley give it any gas. I tightned it is much as I could. I put the bracket how it is supposed to be attachend but now it will not the other two barrels. I know that ther is someway to adjust the cable.
Try some of these links

go to the technical information for the Holley 600 and download the PDF file - it should have what you need.

73 shark. There is plenty of cable showing and I can manually move the linkage on the carb to open it wide open. I only need about 1/4 more movement and then I should be good to go.
You would not be the first 'Vette owner to do this for this same reason.
New floor mats killed my performance. That took a couple a beers to figure that one out. Starred at that carb till I ran out of beer then the lights came on.
