I have a 1979 vette with a 3 speed automatic transmission. How do I tell what type of transmission I have? I assume it is stock. Is it a turbo 350 or 400? How can I find out?

Hi riley6, if it's the factory tranny it's a turbo-350, the easy way to tell between the 350 & 400 is to look at the pan, the 350 pan is almost square, the 400 has a few curves with a rounded bulge. I think from '73 on they put the 400 behind big blocks only, then after no more 454's were offered it was only the 350 trans.
