? what is normal engine temp 1977 L1
My 1977 350 engine is running I think on the high side 195 to 200 temp, Is the the normal range ? Here in AZ it gets above 115 and higher. I'm running 20/50 oil, 160 thermostat, two gallons of shell high milage anti-freeze,. the timming is set to 8 Dregree's tdc. also install new clutch fan. also installed a manual temp gauge at engine. There is a couple degree's temp "lower on the manul at engine, "Higher on the electric at console.
Anyone who has a idea or ideas all welcome.

IMO, ya might try a 180 thermo. The water will stay in the engine longer and pick up more heat transfer. Pickin' up the heat is one thing, but you have to cool it back down too. There is a product, of which the name escapes me at the moment, that makes water wetter and helps with heat transfer.

I agree with Starship, use a 180 t-stat, 195 isn't bad but if the cooling system has'nt been maintained it's probably due for a good cleaning. I used a heavy duty cooling system flush and it improved quite a bit. Of course after the harsh cleaning the water pump seal started leaking and I put in a 4-row radiator the following year, but I was planning on the new radiator to handle the upcoming stroker motor.
