P.S. hang out at your local machine shop (a good one that is well known) and get to know the guys it will help with questions and will assist in learning alot!!!!!

Great plan! You can read books forever and if you don't actually get your hands dirty,there will be a lot you miss! A lot of my early learning was done in a Navy base auto hobby shop with any number of guys stopping by to give a hand or a little advice or just to BS. When you're done the car will be part of you and a great source of pride and a feeling of accomplishment. There is absolutely no other car that will do this like a vette! Take it easy,take your time and understand what you're doing as you go! Good Luck!

Do yourself a favor and buy a new 350 crate engine from Summit or Jegs.
I put a 385 hp fast burn crate engine in 5 years ago and have had very good results.
You can pump these up even more if you like by adding a nasty cam etc.
If you want something that is fast and you can drive on the street this is the way to go.
