Default 1984 Crossfire questions

I recently purchased a 1984 Crossfire with out the knowledge that it wasnt that great of a motor. The guy told me he had no problems out of it and neither have I but I want to rebuild it for a tad bit more power motorwise. What can I do for that I already ordered a thermomaster chip with a lower t-stat and straight pipes with different exausts. So I am building up to 65 more horses with that exaust stuff and the chip is on its way. I want to keep it crossfire but help it out some, what are some suggestions? Can I supercharge this motor or what? Also a friend mentioned something called and x-ram for this car, anyone have one or know of one? Basically i need some advice and help. Thanks everybody.

Don't get too excited about the thermomaster Chip. I put one in my 88 and was disapointed. I only notice a harded than normal pull after 100mph. Before that seems somewhat stock. And always figure the low side of HP additions. If you got the high side of what the items description says, bolt-on mods would add 400 hp. 10 to 20 here, 10 to 20 there. If it were only that easy. Use common sence when buying add ons. If it sounds like a too easy way to get HP. Then it probably is. I hate dumping $100+ on something and then saying,"I think I can feel the differance". Instead of "WOW, How cool is this!!" Some add ons that work but not "real" notice able is in your ignition. Hotter coil and good quality wires. Don't fall for the big buck wire deals. Just some good quality wires. My brother put some "Hot Wires" on his Harley. $100 for two wires. They look cool, but otherwise, nothing. And an adjustable fuel regulater. Keep your fuel pressure at its peak. Low fuel pressure will decrease HP. Underdrive pullys I'm told help as well. Just think before you buy so as to not hurt the driveability. I take my 88 on a 1400 mile trip every spring to see my sister. 27mpg and a great ride. Remember the best part about having a Vette is driving it. Good luck.

Sorry, when I said peak fuel pressure I meant to say, peak recommended fuel pressure.

Ok thanks so Yeah I havent put in the chip yet (its still in the box) I am wondering if I should return it because I guess i could use money on something else. It does claim to help gas economy (im all for that) I think I might look into other chips and things so I can build more power. Would it be worth it to order a custom burnt chip? Also can someone refeer me to someone who can tell me how to supercharge or turbo charge this motor? P.S. I just added a Mallory SuperCoil and High Performance Distribuitor, cap and rotor, and 8.8 mm wires. I fell the difference in the hard acceration and am pleased with the gas mileage. It increased 3mpg!!!!

placidthree i feel your pain, i too have a 84' vette and i have been looking all over for high performance parts with no luck. like another poster said the right fuel pressure helps alot. i did some searching for that x ram you talk about good news i found it. i think it is the best thing us crossfire guys have going right now, it looks so good that i have ordered one with the fuel pump and thottle body they have too. i also had to get the Anodized EGR Adapter Plates they sell (dress up parts are hard to find to) i seen a photo of the air cleaner housing that was chrome and anodized hold down nuts on a crossfire but i have yet to find out who makes it. check out the x ram see what you think

Hey yeah ok for the past few days I have been crash coursing on the crossfire. I have tracked down just about everything possiable on this and came up with a decent plan to build a crossfire motor. 383 stroke kit, aluiminum heads with 1.5 roller rocker exaust and 1.6 roller rocker intake. Decent roller cam (but you cannot go big read the x-ram site) x-ram, elecrtic water pump, no air conditioning (I never use it), underdrive pulleys, a chip(i might have one burnt) if not just the hypertech chip,------ now hear me out and I could be totally wrong but can you take off the air pump? if you can I want to do that, I am going to run a mallory billit distributer with all mallory internals such as icm, cap, rotor, coil,I also found these really awesome plug wire but they are insamely expensive( http://www.zip-products.com/Zip/prod...7A821BBB89B7A7 )and bosch plugs I might have forgotton more but i do not have the sheet right here in front of me.

Hey corvettekid, did you read the whole x-ram site? I did and actually you will gain a tad bit mor horse power out of your vette by leaving it off and not having it. Oh I did for get to mention there are headders for our motor they look like a bitch to put in but I bet they are worth it. Check it out at Summit.

Sorry about that I was very cryptic, I was talking about leaving off the air pump. This is an option if you arent faced with smog problems. You can remove the egr valve on the intake this will make a slight bit more horsepower.
