Default 1991 radio/cd player problems

Have a 1991 vette. DC player doen't work. The speakers are individually am[lified. At least 2, possibly a 3rd, have blown speakers. None of the places I take it to (Circuit City, Good Guys, etc.) will sell me anything to replace it. They tell me that the '90-'93 models have wiring harness/setups that won't allow aftermarket sytems. They tell me that it will disrupt the signals to the CPU causing assorted eletrical problems. I'm in southrn calif. My vette is in excellent condition (56,000 miles). Purchased it with this problem. Don't want to have to go to dealer.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but since no one else replyed. This is true. On some Vettes the stereo does in fact run through the CPU. I have heard of this problem this spring with another guy. I will do some checking and see what options he had and will report back to you. ihope I can find out what he did.

My radio didnt work in my 90. I custom installed, and wired a complete aftermarket system in the car. 6 1/2 spkr in back, 5 1/4 in doors, 5 1/4 in the kickpanels, 2 10 subwoofers, aftermarket dvd player and about 2000 watts to drive it all. I went crazy with it, because I am into great sound quality, but you can go to a good stereo shop, and they'll custom install a setup for you. It will cost some money, but it's worth it. Or you can pay stupid money to ecklers, and they'll fix the system you have now(~600 for the radio, ~200 for each speaker and amp) Good luck

go to a car stereo store...not a big box store with 16 year old installers. they will not be able to help you at circuit city and best buy. corvettes are delicate but all you have to do is bypass the amplifiers at each amplifier location...in that car it would be in both rocker panels and in the rear quarter panels of the hatch. you can squeak 5 1/4 inch speakers in all 4 locations and the harness for your car is a regular metra part number 70-1858. your radio is not linked to thecars computer however its also not where you think it is. what your looking at isnt your radio. your radio is a tuner pack that is located behind the dash where the glove box would be if you had one. remove the bottom plastic panel and look up all the way forward and to the right, there is a small metal box with your antenna plugged into it, there is also a plug in the "tuner pack" the metra harness plugs into that plug and then you have all your wires...you just need to extend them to where the new radio is going to go. You HAVE to replace the radio at this point as bose systems do not work with components missing.
good luck!

Best thing to do is get a wiring diagram.

Amp'ed boses comin' through the computer??? They have their own processor, and a mike, which takes ambient cabin sound, and plays it back in it's acoustic INVERSE. Some 6 figure cars have such soundequipment, justfor the exhaust silencing.

And there's no shortage of noise in a c4a. Especially that mid-range exhaust resonance.
