Default 1993 Corvette AC

My AC went out on my 1993 vette and I believe it is the old standard AC that nobody really uses anymore. I wanted to know if somebody knew if this is the year where the AC in it is the old AC that should be replaced with the new type. Also, if anybody could tell me what it costs to replace the old AC for the new one that would be great
Thanks

Yes 1993 vette has r12 thats the old type.I changed mine over to 134 thats new type. All I done was bought the fittings and shot the 134 rite in . I ve done this many times with no problem. They suggest that you change everthing <drier o rings oil and so on>

I did the same thing as repo n khaki here, except for pumpin' through two cans of 'conversion flush'. Don't know if it helped, but that's what is is made for...

There's a how-to with some pics here - maybe it will help:

Me too...... on several cars and trucks with no problems. I have heard that you need to replace all the components and I've heard that the main difference is that the 134 molecules are smaller so they may leak out sooner and changing everything is hype. Fact or fiction??? Like the others here I just changed the fitting and put the 134 right in and two years later they all blow ice cold still. the fittings are about $8 and the hose is about $12 and the 134 is ...what , like $6 a can. my cousin paid like $1100.00 to have his '87 vette(mine now)changed over the recommended way......What a bonehead, huh?...got the little sticker and all.

Cheers
