ORIGINAL: mech259

When it is in overdrive and in lockup, it is in a direct 1 to 1 ratio, so city driving is not easy on a 700R. Early 80's 700's had lots of case problems with bearings giving up and mainshafts dropping and eating into case's. Direct drive really puts a stress on the internals at low speeds, lug, lug. LOL[8D]
YES! This is the answer I was looking for! I knew it!!! Back in the mid 80's I worked at my uncle's Ford dealership... the A4 tranny's were kinda new at that time... I remember a TON of them coming back for new trannies, and the mechanics in the shop told me that this was because the folks were leaving it in O/D in town, shiftin' in an' outta O/D. This is exactly why I posed this question here. Primarily, I was wonderin' if this was an old wives tale, so to speak, or true... seems I got my answer!

*bows to mech259* Thank you, kind sir!
