My instrument panel occasionally goes blank (it's still on, just not back-lit) with only the turn indicator and high beam tell-tale lights on. I read that this may be caused by a bad ground. I also read that the ground wire is connected on the firewall somewhere. Can somebody tell me where the ground point for the instrument panel is. I'd like to try to clean it to see if it makes a difference with the instrument panel.

Usually the problem is cold solder joints on the I/P circuit board. Do a search for it on these forums and there is a site that has pics and instructions.[8D]

 

Actually, I was going to send the instrument panel off for repairs. The speedo panel needs to be repaired or replaced (it looks like the LCDs are all starting to "bleed" together). But I wanted to check the grounds to make sure they weren't corroded (and also to see if that was was causing the panel to go blank).
I know about the ground strap between the frame and motor underneath the battery. I was just wondering where the other grounds were.. specifically the one that connects theinstrument panel.

There are 2 grounds relating to cab issues. There is 1 above each kick panel in the interior, there is a ground on the left frame rail just to the front left of the engine in addition to the ground strap you mentioned. [8D]
