You can also use an unlit propane torch.

I used propane to check for vacuum leaks and and other than one line I forgot to reconnect on the throttle body I didn’t find any leaks

I haven’t checked the timing yet. I have asked around if any of my friends have a timing light but so far no luck. I will be picking one up soon if I don’t find one to borrow

If nothing else, mark the distributor, loosen it a bit and (while it's running) move it a tad either way to see what happens.

Isn't the timing controlled electronically on this engine?

I believe there is some control, but not complete. I do know if the distributor isn't put back just right, you'll have trouble.

Does this year have the opti-spark? I don't remember when they started using that.
