Default 86 won't start!

i was driving my car to work. parked it for several hours, and then it wouldnt start. the starter motor turns fine, i can smell fuel and get it out of the shrader vavle (spelling?), but i cant get a spark from the spark plugs. i replaced the cap, rotor, coil, wires, and the spark plugs and still i have no luck. is there a security device that is messing up, or is there something else i should check??

Might try changing out the electronic module (In the base of distributor inside the cap) or the pickup coil.

Also: my experience with a dead '86 was the clutch/ignition switch which is only on a couple of year-model 'vettes. Yep - if this switch is bad, the motor won't start. This is a saflety switch that requires the driver to step on the clutch before starting the engine. My switch was dead, the facorty don't make'em, so the garage had to bypass the switch in order to start the car. Only drawback: now you can start the car accidentally while in gear (!)
Hope this helps.

I finally decided to take it into the local corvette shop. turns out they found a bunch of gasoline in the crankcase oil, and apparently the fuel injectors were constantly open, just pouring fuel into the cylinders. The cause: the ECM was out.
So its good that i replaced a lot of things that need to be replaced anyways, but it sure cause a lot of headache, and there was no warning either.
