Default 94 rough idle/ bucking

I have a 94 that when you are driving down the highway between idle and 1600 rpms and you go to accelerate a little the car bucks. This doesnt happen all the time. Also when you sit at a light the idle will jump up to like 1200 rpm once in a while. seems like this all happens when the car heats up.

I have just experienced the same problem this past weekend with my 94 at 70K miles and will be installing a new opti-spark distributor, water pump and plug wires when they arrive UPS. My car had an occasional engine skip two weeks ago that had dissappeared as fast as it appeared but last weekend the engine skip was there all day. Last night I removed the water pump and opti-spark distributor and did find a few drops of water in the distributor cap as I suspected with a broken cap seal, (common problem) with an early opti-spark with 70k on it. There is a GM service bulletin on this issue and they are selling a cap and rotor for the fix, however the opti-spark distributor should be inspected and replaced as a unit if the bearing is worn as well. I will keep you posted as to the results of my repair as of this weekend. You could also have a faulty plug wire causing the engine skip. Bigal

I do have a 94 vette that I just bugth, and I need to do a tune up on my I got a MSD cap and when I took the old cap the distribuitor was trash all rusted inside, those LT1 have problems with the original distribuitor if you have the money get the new billet aluminiun distribuitor and your car will run good, the kit comes with some fresh air vacumm hoses to keep the distribuitor clean and dry. Thats what I did on my, good look.

Opti Spark distributor and plug wires replaced, skip is gone. I also found the EGR valve had carbon in it and was causing the idle problem. I did modified the early Opti Spark distributor http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/16758/ to give it a possitive vent, time will tell, however it'll take me 10 more years to put another 70k on the car. Parts are available for a reasonable price here. http://sores.ebay.com/Partsladi

Sorry, it's http://stores.ebay.com//Partsladi
I don't think a billet distributor, same design as the original will help in the long run and it's more money than a DIS conversion by a couple of hundred. The idea is to eliminate the high voltage from the distributor, period, however you still have that little bearing problem that will show itself eventually. If you can purchase an Opti Spark complete for $288 for an early and $230 for a late, you would probably go through two in the life of the car, still cheaper than any conversion.
