Bad coolant leak and hiss
My low coolant light came on today while i was driving. Its an 86 vett. I stoped, opened the hood and was consumed by a cloud of evaporating coolant. as you can see coolant is leaking from the top of my engine text to the runners. It is only leaking on the left side. There is also a hissnear the EGR tube that sounds like there is hot pressure trying to ecsape.I also found a small washer ring next to the EGR inside a pool of coolant. Whats that? What is causing this leak? How expensive is this going to be?

I brought up your pics for ya.
My first suspect, in most cases, is the thermostat housing, where it ataches to the intake manifold. As far as the washer, it could be an "oops, where'd that sucka go", at some time when some work was being done. They don't just "Pop out" from somewhere.
Ya might want to check your oil for any signs of water, just in case this is signs of a more serious prob. If your oil is o.k., top off your cooling system, start 'er up, and watch for any teltale signs of leakage. You'll have ta let 'er warm up, so that your coolant starts circulating.
Hope this helps.

Been there, did that. You probably need to re-work the intake - pull, clean, new gaskets. Doubtful you got any damage.
Cost was a complete set of intake gaskets. And about 35 hours of time (only excessive, cause I cleanALL parts, till they glow, including bolts).
