Default Best Buy for Sound System???

Has anyone got comments - positive or negative - regarding sound systems purchased at Best Buy? I'm looking to replace deck and speakers in my '85. Having never purchased a car sound system, I would like some input. All comments will be appreciated!

Thanks!

shoping at best buys is a tricky thing if you dont no your audio stuff. for speakers, rockford fosgate,or power acoustic for subs, for mid and highs. infinity. and for a deck alpine or soney. remember this when buying speakers and a deck if you are not going to run a amp, check the watts of the raido first off. if it is pushing 200 whatts that would be 50 watts a channel, then you must find the rms ,that is the true watts it would be pushing,,for example a 12 sub from soney says 1000 watts, but the rms on the sub is only 300 watts so you want to mach the watts with the raido or amp to get the best sound ,so if you got a 400 watt amp true rms and hooked it up to the 300 watt sub you will blow it up, if you hooked up a 200 watt amp true rms. to the 300 watt sub you will get a distorion, no mach the rms 300 to 300 and you have a wicked sound system. i hope this helpd ,if you have any questions just ask away.

couple questions, just like you would ask regarding mods for a car.
what kind of music do you usually listen to?
amp or no amp, like cking said?
sub?
features you want from the head unit, like HD, sat radio, ipod, cd, mp3,
speakers i like for the vette: infinities (esp kappa perfects), boston acoustic, jbl

as far as shopping at best buy, you can do a lot online, and then going to the manf. webiste. if you go into the store, tell the sales guy to go away.

How much are you looking to spend?

That would be a good starting point for info.

If you are buying your sound system from Best Buy then thats fine, but the Best Buy by me said they don't work on Vettes. So if you where thinking about having them do the install they may not do it. Aside from that I would personally have a audio shop work on my car (but thats just personal preference).

I would NOT suggest Best But for car audio. Very bad experiences in the past. They quoted me $2,500+ for a fairly standard system and would not warranty the install[:@]

They claim a need to re-wire the entire vehicle (which is partially true due to the type of self-amplified speakers).

I put in a Sony Explode sound system for less than $300 at Wal-mart. Fully capable. Sounds great. Fully programmable. Looks great. Took me a weekend and a few bloody knuckles but I did it[8D]

Found the wiring diagrams on the internet, free of course

I'm Dave, let me know if you need help. At least I might be able to tell you what not to do...

I have a chance to buy a good used Clarion DRB5176 aftermarket CD Stereo with 6 speakers (2-45 watt, 2-100 watt & 2-150 watt) and Coustic Power Logic Amplifier with wires, that came out of a 1986 Corvette. I have a 89 vette. Is it a bad idea to buy a used stereo? Is the Clarion a good system to use?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rocky

For christmas im getting my "soon to be system". Its 12 subs hooked in the back with a 5 1/2 in each door running 2 different amps. I have the pioneer CD player from MA motorworks. On superbase I thnk it gives like 50 or 100 extra watts sumting like that. How loud will my setup be. Oh yea the back bose speakers and Front ones are out and will be for sell CHEAP if anyone wants....Sorry for hijacking the thread.
