Default Bilstein Shock Z51

Greeting.

Any advice on ride quaility of the Bilstein Shocks for an 89 with the Z51 handling package? Thinking about getting them from Ecklers.

I don't think you're going to get too much improvement in the ride quality of a Z51 car. But your best bet would probably be to get something adjustable like the QA1s. I don't think there's a better shock out there from the standpoint of versatility. Their standard model is adjustable 12 ways and 24 is also available. QA1s are what I'll be using when I do my coilover conversion. There is also the possibility of having your factory Bilsteins rebuilt. If you do this, you can also have them revalved. Just tell them that ride quality is your main criteria. They'll know what to do from there. But the Z51s are stiff, don't expect miracles.

I'm the second owner of the car, and the first guy had the factory shocks repalced with KYB on the fornt and what appears to be black AC delco's on the rear. I was hoping for a bit softer ride but didn't want to give up a lot in the handling dept. I've always heard good things about the Bilsteins. I'm not going to race the car or enter any events, just looking for the best bang for the buck.

Although the KYBs are not an all out performance shock, they're a good shock for the price and provide a good ride. Unless they're shot a new set of Bilsteins, whether standard or Z51 spec, will not improve your ride.

Bottom Line: They are the best bang for your buck[8D]

There is a reason why they are used on ALL NASCAR race cars.

You can listens to all the bullsh*t about multiple chamber shocks you want. I'm tellin' you, the Billsteins were a blessing for my baby!!!

Curves rock!

Acceleration awesome!

Braking superb!

Rough road, smooth road all's good

What can I complain about? NOTHIN'!

Can you tell that I like mine[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I have a z51 and I run Bilstein shocks. You won't be disappointed. Put a new set of rubber on at the same time, and you'll be out handling a z06
