Bilstein shocks

RE: Bilstein shocks
Welcome to the Corvette Forum. Shouldn't be any installation problem if they're the correct shocks. Just remove top nut (may have to hold shaft if it turns) and two cap screws on lower A-arm. Haven't personally used Bilsteins but hear that they are good.
Shouldn't you put a pair on rear to maintain handling balance?

73SHARK has a good point. Those are great shocks, but you will see a much larger improvement if you replace them all.
I dont know how much trouble the rear are to replace but I'm sure it would be worth it, and it would help your vette reach its full potiential. Performance = fun [sm=badbadbad.gif]

RE: Bilstein shocks
Only problem you run into with the rears is the upper bolt is usually rusted to the sleeve in the rubber shock bushing and can be a real PITA to remove after you get the nut off. Suggest soaking with Kroil a few days ahead of time.

Thanks for the info, I'm looking forward to the improved handling. And yes, I'll replace the rears also along with heavy duty front springs and a rear sway bar. However, these things have to be done over a period of time and with finese to prevent triggering the wife's hair trigger spending alarm! Again, thanks.

RE: Bilstein shocks
For a small block and fairly neutral handling, recommend the 1.125" front bar and the 9/16" rear, 7/8" rear for a big block. Since it's neutral, you will need to be careful since the stock setup has quite of bit of understeer as do most cars. Lot safer to plow thru the corner going forwards than to have it swap ends.

RE: Bilstein shocks
I have a pair of Bilstein Sports on the rear of my '79, along with a 400 lb. composite monospring - the improvement in handling is fantastic. I will be adding a pair to the front soon. The Bilstein's really firmed up the ride.
