C4 Timing Adjustment?
Hi folks - I'm trying to help out a neighbor with an 86 convertible that she just inherited. Can the timing be adjusted by turning the distributor or is it strictly computer controlled? If computer controlled, is there a procedure posted anywhere to set the distributor in the right position?
The car starts very hard and the distributor looks like it's been turned, maybe with too much advance.
Sorry, but I'm brand new on Corvetteforums.com and these C4s are all new to me. My neighbor is not going to keep this car, so we're not really interested in buying a service manual.
Thanks, Bob

There is a "set timing" connector on the wire loom behind the distributor, brown wire with a black tracer, that has to be disconnected first before you set timing. This puts it in base timing. It may turn on the check engine light, if it does, just simply disconnect battery for 5 minutes then you should be ok.
