Default Car will not start!

We have had this problem before! It was suggested to clean the pellet on the key with alcohol, and this worked. Now, we are back to the same problem, and when I checked the computer, the code 46 is shown, so I believe it is a VATS problem. I checked the VAT fuses in the main fuse block on the right side of the dash. Looking at the owners manual, it seems that there is an additional fuse holder that seems to be part of the IP harness. On that fuse holder it has a 15 amp theft fuse and a 5 amp crank fuse. Using the service manual, I have been unable to locate it precisely other than it is behind the IP console. What I am asking is does anyone have suggestions on how to repair this system considering things I have already tried? This is my daughter's car, and she does not want to go somewhere, shut the engine off and be stranded, particularly in Montana! Would a security override system resolve this problem? Any help will be appreciated!!

Default RE: Car will not start!

More than likely, the key reader in the ignition switch is bad. The "pellet" you are referring to is just a resistor that is read read by the ignition switch. If the switch is replaced, you have to go through a "learn" process so the VATS system can relearn the resistance reading of the key.[8D]
