I am not too sure about dye, i would assume you wouldnt get great results though, unless you had it professionally done. I personally am going to purchase the all new interior carpet. You can find all-new carpet in your car for probably around $350. That might be a little steep but you can pick the color you want and it is all easy installation if you know what you are doing.

i am going to try mine this weekend. it is red. i have had good luck before with the black so we will see. the only thing i noticed was,that after it dried, the carpet fibres feel "stuck together".
After about 2 days , i just took a brush "soft upholstrey type" and brushed it to soften it up. and it worked for me. However you can afford to replace the carpet. I would recommend doing that. I am in a pinch now but i will get new carpet eventually.
