Question Computer module not turning on fan

My 93’s service engine light comes on at the same time my electric fans come on. The light stays on as long as the fan stays on and once the fan goes off the service engine light goes off. This is especially noticeable when driving in traffic and as the summer temps rise I expect the light to come on more. The temp gage is only mid way so not close to overheating as far as I can tell. I was told my computer module needs replacement which is expensive and it does not look like there are any new ones to buy. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Your fans are working and it's not overheating, that's good. If the check engine light is on for any length of time there should be a error code set. The fans operate with the A/C on also, even in defrost mode. I would check the error codes and the ground wire connections, making sure there is not a system feeback.

we have an issue with the front fans not turning on. Checked voltage and computer does seem to send voltage signals but don’t know if it’s a programming issue. It was a front end collision and mechanic had said it might be the harness but all wires as intact.

Welcome to the forum. If the computer is sending 12 volts on the circuit and it's not getting to the fans and it sounds like a wiring issue.

Default Voltage. Check

we did check the voltage at the harness and it seems to be getting there but don’t know what it doesn’t turn on. My brother in law checked the pulses and that was measuring correctly too.

I'm guessing that the computer signal drives a relay which controls the voltage to the fans. If you're getting the signal to the relay and the 12 volts is getting to the contacts of the relay and out the other connection to the fan, that I suspect you've got to wiring problem.

Patvette, I just went through this myself. did you ever resolve this issue? Here's a link to my thread about it:
https://www.corvetteforums.com/forum...n-20811/page2/

I had this exact same phenomenon, where I was getting 10V-11V at the fan plug, but no turning fan. With an Ammeter, I measured 3.2 Amps across the relay poles, you could try testing for amperage to see what yours has to offer the fan.

My issue, as far as I can deduce, was that the fan had gone out and overdrawn current through the wiring. The old fan motor spun but was crunchy. Like 73Shark suggests, my issue turned out to be a fusible link that had partially blown but not all the way. This allowed it to pass a voltage and a little amperage but not enough to run the fan.

My suggestion is to look in that mess of wires around the battery and try to locate Fusible Link D, which is an orange fusible link wire that emerges from a black overmolded plastic joint between two other red wires. One is very large, from the battery, and the other is thinner and supplies the orange Fusible Link H that supplies the fuel pump. and a few other things I believe.
