Default Considering differential swap

I have a stock 1989 convertible with 2.59 gears, auto trans. I am considering a numerically higher differential swap. It looks like factory options would have included 3.07 and 3.54. I drive the car mainly in town, very little open road. What kind of complications should I expect? What ratio would you recommend?

Hi Gene,
I have a 3.07 rear diff I'd like to trade for a lower numerical ratio. Maybe we could swap?
Thanks, Dave

Welcome to the forum to you both.

Assuming the housings are the same for both gear sets, shouldn't be any problems. Be sure you get the gears set up by someone that knows what they are doing. Not a DIY job w/o the proper tools and knowledge.

One more thing, having changed rear ends in non-corvette's before is you'll have to rework things so the speedometer is corrected. If you just change the rearend without doing anything else, the speedometer & odometer will be wrong.

Thanks for the greetings. I'm looking to trade my complete 3.07 diff assembly for a 2.59 or 2.73 so that the gears will not have to be reset. I'm aware that the speedo/odo will need correction. Does anyone know if the correction is done with the computer or by a gear change at the speed sensor?
