May is a"blonde" question but I'm brand new into Corvette world. I just bought a 1989 Convertible and I noticed the color inside the exhaust tubes is different. The two external tubes have a nice brown color sign of a correct combustion, the two inner tubes have a heavy black color. Is this normal? Shouldn't be all four the same? Sorry to the people who are laughing right now and thank you for a helpful reply.

 

I may be mistaken, but i remember some vette's had non working exhaust tubes. maybe the two outside tubes worked and the inside were there for looks only. cant remeber the year i saw this on. shine a flashlight in there and give a quick look.

 

perhaps the black tubes are the working tubes and covered in carbon and the others may be rusty. ????
I also heard something about fake tips but unfortunately cannot remember the year(s). How does it run?
