Default Fuek Tank

OK I'm at the point that due to the crap that's coming out of my fuel tank that I need to replace the tank. Cost from the Chevy dealer is $1997. Anyone know where I could getone cheaper? Thanks...

What's coming out of the tank?

While in college, I built a CJ-7, almost from the ground up. It had been sitting for 20 months, the former owner said. When it came time to do the tank, I pulled it, dropped in a 5-lb bag of aquarium gravel, 4 ozs of laundry soap,a gallon of water, baked in a pre-heated oven for 2 1/2 hrs (or until tender), then shook, and shook, and shook. Rinse, reinstall the guage, put in some water-breaker-downer (or whatever it's called), reinstall, put in a gallon or two of gas, and go fill it up, and drive.

I drove it for 6 years after that. I never saw anything in my see-through in-line fuel filter. I think I saw some bubbles in the rear-view on occasion, but that's another story.

And just kiddin' about the baking in the pre-heated oven, too... Throw it in there cold.

I would think you could clean it out and seal it with some of that stuff from Eklers or Easwood and do just fine. Would be a lot cheaper than buying a new one. Maybe $50.00 compared to the $1997.00 at the dealer. Good luck with it.
