fuel injector cleaner
I think I've been troubleshooting the wrong thing, as I think i have an injector problem now. I thought it was an electrical issue...but the car ran perfect...and after thinking about it....I did go kind of overboard with fuel injector cleaner, and according to a guy from a different forum he stated, "
With '85-88 Bosch injectors, do not use cleaning additives in the gas tank. Fuel-system cleaners are not recommended, by GM, because of the kinds of materials used in the fuel tank bladder, fuel O-rings, and fuel line hoses. If cleaning is required, use the GM specified procedure. On the other hand, Multec injectors, in the '89-01 models, do not need cleaning, and doing so could damage them."
This was taken from Ken's post, which was taken from Charles Probst book "Corvette Fuel Injection."
thing is I went crazy with the injector fluid. I used this cheap gumout injector cleaner from autozone it was like $5. That's when I started having starting issues, but I didn't think it would be the injector cleaner, since that was suppose to do good and clean the injectors. But any how, I finished the tank, filled her up again and added injector cleaner again. I started having starting issues...and at this time, it will not start any more. Cranks just won't start...and it's not the battery. So I assume it's most likely my injectors are damaged? Do they simply need cleaning or should they be replaced?[/align]

I dont reccomend fuel cleaning soloutions but Redline and Chevron-Techron are pretty good. I woudlnt think they killed the inejctors? Possibly fuel pump or filter? Sock? Dont go out and buy new injectors unless you are positive that is the problem or youll be throwing down a couple hundred dollars down the drain...just my .02.
Starting issues like you describe could be fuel pump related. Your car has a redundant voltage supply to the pump throught the fuel pump relay and through a oil pressure switch. Usually extended crank problems relate back to bad fuel pump relay and waiting for the car to build oil pressure while cranking to activate the oil pressure switch. If you can pull the catch basin from around your fuel neck, you can test for fuel pump voltage there to see if it is a supply problem.

So i took it to the shop and turns out the injectors were fryed! Good news was that they were going bad WAY before the cleaner and they said it wasn't the cleaner, bad news $1200.00!

I bought a new set for 250.00 from Five 0 Motorsports. Make sure they are at least 22lb injectors. Do a search on Google. It is about a 4 hour job to replace injectors, you'll also need a intake plenum gasket set. You really need to do an injector balance test before just jumpimg in and replaceing them. The prob with that though is if you don't have an injector activating device to fire the injectors, it will be hard to do, since the injectors each have to be fired 50 times to measure correct pressure drop after cycling key each time to have a correct pressure baseline to start with. All injectors should be within a half pound pressure drop of each other. Bigger drop on any, fueling to much, smaller, to lean. [8D]
Im no mechanic but I improvise. If I can find out how to do something I look it up on the internet or go to my Haynes manual......Has alot of info even though people put down on it. 15.00 dollars isnt that bad for what it does provide. If your goinng to do it yourself, might as well clean up everything under there, port the runners and plenum if you have a dremel. Clean out the throttle body, replace gaskets ect. [&:]
